Microsoft and Nvidia deliver industrial metaverse via cloud
Microsoft and Nvidia are collaborating to offer “hundreds of millions” of Microsoft enterprise users access to the industrial metaverse and to AI supercomputing resources via the cloud.
Microsoft’s Azure cloud will host two new Nvidia services:
• Omniverse Cloud – a platform-as-a-service giving instant access to an environment for designing, developing, deploying and managing industrial metaverse applications; and
• DGX Cloud – an AI supercomputing service that gives access to the infrastructure and software needed to train advanced models for generative AI and other applications.
The two companies are also linking their productivity and 3D collaboration platforms by connecting Microsoft 365 applications — such as Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint — with Nvidia’s Omniverse platform for building and operating 3D industrial metaverse applications.
They say their collaboration will accelerate enterprises’ ability to digitalise their operations, engage in the industrial metaverse, and train advanced models for generative AI and other uses.

“The next wave of computing is being born,” adds Microsoft chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella. “Between next-generation immersive experiences and advanced foundational AI models, we see the emergence of a new computing platform.
“Together with Nvidia, we’re focused on both building out services that bridge the digital and physical worlds to automate, simulate and predict every business process, and bringing the most powerful AI supercomputer to customers globally.”
With Omniverse connected to Azure digital twins and the IoT, companies can link real-time data from sensors to their digital replicas. This will allow them to build and operate more accurate, dynamic, functional 3D digital twins that respond automatically to changes in the physical environment.
Omniverse Cloud will be available on Azure in the second half of 2023, while DGX Cloud will be available running in Azure in the next quarter, offering users Nvidia DGX AI supercomputing and software, rented on a monthly basis.
