Wilson moves from ABB to become MD of KUKA UK

08 April, 2019

Mike Wilson, one of the highest profile advocates of industrial robots in the UK, has been appointed managing director of KUKA UK. Wison was previously ABB Robotics’ business development manager for the UK and Ireland, and has been chairman of the British Automation and Robot Association (Bara) since 1994.

Wilson says that his ambition is “for KUKA to be recognised as the leading robot company in the UK”. He is “looking forward to the opportunity to develop the UK and Irish business further, as we continue as a successful, profitable business, a great place to work and a trusted supplier”.

“Automation and robotics has proven its ability to support manufacturers across a wide range of industries transform their operational performance,” he adds. “Increasing productivity, improving efficiencies and better equipping them to react to changing market trends. Together with KUKA and their network of system partners and integrators, we want to help manufacturers transform their business output utilising KUKA robots and autonomous systems.”

Wilson has appeared on British TV to make the case for industrial robots and has written a book, Implementation of Robot Systems, which has been translated into Chinese. In 2018, he was recognised as a manufacturing champion in the UK Manufacturers Top 100.

Wilson: we want to help manufacturers transform their business output

Jeff Nowill, chief regional officer of KUKA’s robotics division for Europe, Middle East, Latin America & India, says that Wilson “brings with him extensive experience in the automotive sector and has an abundance of knowledge of the markets in which we operate, and we are confident that Mike will continue to drive our successful organisation forward”.
