19 September, 2017

Atkore International, the US-based manufacturer of electrical raceway systems, has acquired Flexicon, the UK-headquartered manufacturer of metallic and non-metallic, flexible cable protection systems. The terms of the transaction have not been revealed.

“We are excited about Flexicon joining the Atkore family as their product portfolio both enhances our electrical raceway offering and strengthens Atkore’s global presence” says Mike Schulte, president of Atkore’s mechanical products and solutions business. “With a similar electrical distribution sales channel, this acquisition reinforces a shared focus on providing innovative solutions that help make our customers successful.”

Flexicon’s portfolio of flexible and pliable conduit systems for cable protection consists of 52 metallic and non-metallic systems. Its markets include rail, transport, renewable energy, utilities, petrochemicals, and food and beverage. Its manufacturing centre of excellence is located in Birmingham, UK.

The company’s founder, Adrian Poulton, says: “We’re pleased that Flexicon’s success in providing flexible and liquid-tight conduit solutions is recognised and valued. Under the leadership of managing director Duncan McKinlay, Flexicon has developed an extensive range of industry and customer-approved products, and looks forward to realising the synergies in our combined markets and pursuing additional growth opportunities as a part of the Atkore team.”

Flexicon describes its recently launched Ultra system as "the world’s best conduit fitting for industrial electrical and data installations where continuity of supply is critical"

Atkore’s products isolate and protect electrical circuitry. With 3,100 employees and 53 manufacturing and distribution facilities worldwide, its portfolio includes steel, PVC and aluminium conduit, armoured cable and flexible conduits, metal framing, wire baskets, cable trays and complementary products including fittings, mechanical tubes and sprinkler pipes. Atkore’s headquarters are in Harvey, Illinois.
