Light-powered sensor transmitter is the `first`

05 September, 2007

Siemens spin-off EnOcean claims to be offering the world’s first wireless, battery-free, and affordable, sensor transmitter to integrate all sensor functions in a single device. The STM 110 collects and stores energy from ambient light, performs DC-DC conversion, measures incoming data using low-power electronics, and transmits the data by radio.

The module (shown above) - which measures 21 x 40 x 9mm - is designed to be incorporated into small OEM products which can be installed almost anywhere using a peel-and-stick labels. It can be used to create scalable and continuously adaptable sensor networks that can sense and transmit data on current, temperature, pressure and other variables.
