Mitsubishi unveils strategy to become automation leader

13 February, 2008

Mitsubishi Electric has unveiled a strategy that it hopes will make it the global leader in industrial automation through a combination of technological developments and strategic partnerships. At a recent forum in the US, the Japanese automation supplier revealed how it hopes to become market-leader some time between 2010 and 2012.

In terms of technology, Mitsubishi will be focusing on its e-F@ctory system that ties the factory floor to enterprise IT systems, using four main elements: its newly enhanced iQ Automation control platform; the CC-Link networking system; its MES interface; and its iQ Works graphical software.

The second plank in Mitsubishiís strategy is to form partnerships with key players in the market. For example, it has recently joined forces with IBM and ILS Technology to offer automotive manufacturers a combination of technologies that, it says, will allow them to link their plant floors to their corporate IT systems more effectively.

At the US forum, organised by the ARC Advisory Group, Mitsubishi showed working demonstrations of its technologies.
