Challenge takes over Polish chain-maker

Wolverhampton-based Challenge Power Transmission has bought a Polish chain manufacturer, Limots, for an undisclosed sum. Limots, based in Sroda Weilkapolska, has been in business since 1949 and is one of Europe’s last roller chain manufacturers. The company employs around 100 people and operates 400 chain-making machines.

Challenge hopes to reverse the trend which has seen many European chain-making plants closing in recent years as cheap chain imported from the East has eroded their competitiveness. Challenge plans to cut Limots’ delivery times and to introduce new products, including a wider range of conveyor and attachment chains.

Limots’ existing portfolio includes: timing chains; roller chains with pitches from 9.35–250mm; rubber-top chains; conveyor chains; leaf chains; and chain attachments.
