Fingerprint access is untouchable

Moeller has developed a fingerprint reader that restricts access to machines, systems or protected areas. The M22-ESA device scans and memorises the structure of the fingertip and only allows authorised personnel to access the protected zone.

The reader (shown above) uses a technology known as thermal line sensing. As a finger is moved across a linear array of thermal sensors, they register the time taken for the small changes in temperature between the fingerprint`s ridges and grooves. This pattern is compared with stored records to determine whether the scanned fingerprint is acceptable.

If the fingerprint is accepted, a green LED indicates that access has been authorised, and the protected area is made accessible.

The fingerprint reader - which measures 65mm by 50mm - is programmed using Moeller`s MFD-Titan HMI.
