SKF adds motor diagnostics specialist to its portfolio

21 June, 2007

SKF has bought Baker Instruments, a US company that specialises in test and diagnostic instruments for electric motors, for $14m. The Colorado-based business employs 62 people and has annual sales amounting to around $11m.

"This move into electric motor diagnostics is important to our new energy efficiency solutions business, and is in line with the SKF Group’s move towards supporting our customers in their sustainability efforts" says Phil Knights, president of SKF’s service division.

Until now, SKF’s condition monitoring technologies have been based on measuring mechanical properties, mainly using vibration and lubrication analysis.

Baker will join SKF Relaibility Systems in the group`s service division. Until now, Baker’s activities have focused on the North American market.
