Seventh axis extends working range of small robots up to 5m

The Swiss automation supplier Güdel has developed a purpose-built seventh-axis linear track for collaborative and lightweight robots, which extends their working range up to 5m.
The Cobomover allows robots to operate multiple workstations and perform a variety of tasks without manual repositioning. It is compatible with more than 60 cobots and small traditional robots
“The Cobomover is more than just another linear axis – it’s a gamechanger,” says Güdel’s head of sales in the US, Brenda Courim,. “It’s designed to help integrators and end-users to get the most out of their cobot and lightweight robot investments.”
The axis, designed and manufactured in Switzerland, offers mounting positions at 0 and 180 degrees. Its maximum payload, including the robot, is 78kg. It has a maximum speed of 2m/s, a maximum acceleration of 2m/s² and provides a repeatability of ±0.05 mm.
Its drive system uses a toothed belt combined with an angular gearbox. It is available in stroke lengths from 1-5m.
A rival in this market is Thomson Industries which unveiled its MovoTrak CTU axis a few months ago. It can extend cobot operating ranges to 10m.
