Free software upgrade boosts cobot load capacities by 5kg

Universal Robots, the Danish collaborative robot (cobot) manufacturer, has increased the payload capacity of its high-payload UR20 and UR30 cobots, allowing users to lift more at no extra cost. The increased payload can be achieved “in minutes” simply by updating the machines’ PolyScope software to version 5.19 or later.
The updates raise the total payload, including end-effector, from 20kg to 25kg for the UR20, and from 30kg to 35 kg for the UR30, when using the cobots in their top lift position. UR says this will be especially useful for palletising applications.
UR20s and UR30s shipped from this year will automatically include the software supporting the use of higher payloads.
“At Universal Robots, we continuously test and develop our products, and when we unlock new features, we want to give partners and customers immediate access,” says the company’s chief product officer, Tero Tolonen. “This update enables customers to increase productivity without increasing costs, and it’s just one example of how our passion for innovation drives benefit to our customers’ bottom line.”
