Microcontrollers promise faster, simpler machine set-ups

Rockwell Automation has announced a microcontroller that, it says, will make it simpler, faster and more cost-effective to develop smart machines. The Allen‑Bradley Micro820 L20E controllers are based on existing LC20 platform, but offer additional capabilities that enhance program execution, I/O responses and communications, in the same compact footprint.
The new controllers have been designed to simplify integration and speed up commissioning, thus helping machine-builders to improve productivity and get their machines to the market quickly. They offer Class 1 implicit messaging supporting up to four nodes, thus resulting in more efficient comms connections, enhancing real-time control and reliability. USB Type C ports streamline initial machine set-up and configuration, helping to save engineering time.
The micro controllers are compatible with Rockwell’s Connected Components Workbench software (version 23) and its FactoryTalk Design Workbench software (version 1 or later), allowing users to leverage advanced functions in an intuitive programming environment.
