Wittenstein takes controlling stake in Israeli motion specialist STXI

The German cybertronic motion engineering specialist Wittenstein is buying a majority stake in the Israeli motor controls supplier STXI Motion, for an undisclosed sum. Wittenstein says the acquisition will expand its capabilities in electronics and software for electric motors, and boost its expertise in holistic drive systems.
“STXI Motion’s comprehensive expertise in the fields of electronics and software, in particular, will be an excellent addition to our portfolio,” says Wittenstein’s CEO, Dr Bertram Hoffmann.
In addition to its headquarters in Petach Tikva, Israel, STXI has sales operations in Viersen in Germany and near Chicago in the US. The company’s products include servomotors and servodrives, integrated motors, geared motors, and motion and robot controllers.
STXI was founded in 2019 as an offshoot from Servotronix which had more than 30 years of motion control experience. In 2021 it set up a production and assembly facility for integrated drive motors, and in 2025 it added functional safety modules to its portfolio.
Clara Sipes, market analyst at Interact Analysis, points out that “historically, Wittenstein has been known for its customisation capabilities and gearbox solutions. By purchasing STXI, Wittenstein gains access to the mobile robotics market, but also, their standardised portfolio of motors.”
She suggests that Wittenstein will probably re-enter the market with STXI’s portfolio targeting the rapidly growing mobile robotics and intralogistics sector, allowing it to reach the market faster, without needing to spend time and money on additional R&D.
“By combining Wittenstein’s customisation expertise with STXI’s servo portfolio, Wittenstein will be well positioned to provide semi-custom options that machine-builders are seeking,” adds Interact’s research manager, Blake Griffin. “STXI has historically had a focus on the mobile robotics market, with their standard portfolio being well positioned for this space. Once Wittenstein enters the market with this portfolio, it is likely they will expand these offerings to feature their gearboxes and custom capabilities, successfully merging these two portfolios.”
Wittenstein has around 2,900 employees at 25 sites worldwide, and achieved sales of €526m in 2024/25. Its portfolio includes precision servodrives and linear systems, servomotors, as well as cybertronic drive systems.
