WEG invests €4m to expand production of LV motors in Italy

The Brazilian motor-maker WEG has announced plans to expand its capacity to produce low-voltage motors in Italy. It is investing around €4m in a first phase, most of this going on a new 6,600m² factory that is due to start operations in the first half of 2026.
The new plant will be located in Milan, around 22km from the WEG’s existing low-voltage motor factory that it acquired when it bought the Cemp brand (among others) for $400m from Regal Rexnord in 2024.
The new facility will take advantage of synergies between the new site and the existing Cemp plant, and add to the explosion-proof motor products that WEG produces in the 45,000m2 factory that it commissioned recently in Portugal.
“This expansion represents a strategic step for WEG in Italy, allowing us to increase our production capacity, optimise processes, and strengthen synergies between our operations in the country,” says Rodrigo Fumo, managing director of WEG’s Industrial Motors business. “With this, we reinforce our commitment to providing innovative and high-quality solutions to our customers.”
WEG started its Italian operation when it opened a commercial branch in Milan in 2001. In 2022, it expanded its presence in the country by acquiring the motion control business of the Italian company Gefran for €23m.
In 2024, WEG acquired the Cemp business which specialised in producing brake motors and special industrial motors for hazardous areas.
Currently, WEG operates two factories as well as a commercial branch in Italy, employing around 320 people.
