AUTOMATION FOR MANUFACTURING

WEG announces plans to invest R$160m in motor production in Brazil

WEG is expanding its Linhares plant in Brazil to increase motor production

The Brazilian motors, electrical and automation manufacturer WEG has announced plans to invest around R$160m ($29.5m) to integrate and expand the production of electric motors at its Linhares plant, in Espírito Santo, Brazil.

The project includes the construction of a new building and the acquisition of advanced equipment for manufacturing wires – an essential step in producing electric motors. This will reinforce the company’s vertical integration strategy, increase control over its supply chain, and improve its operational efficiency.

The new facility is due to start operating in 2027, with a plan to expand its capacity to produce wire gradually, in line with the projected expansion of electric motor manufacturing at the site.

“By bringing more stages of the production process to the region, we are able to gain greater control, enhance competitiveness, and increase agility,” says Julio Cesar Ramires, managing director of WEG’s Commercial and Appliance Motors business. “This helps us to deliver more efficiently, while maintaining the quality our customers expect. In addition, it positions us better to face future challenges.”
