UR launches free simulation tool to simplify workcell set-ups

The Danish cobot giant, Universal Robots (UR), has released an online tool that allows users to simulate every aspect of their workcells before commissioning. With the UR Studio software, they can test robot movements, simulate reach, speed and workflow, and calculate cycle times, thus simplifying cell configurations before they deploy their cobots.
The free tool, based on UR’s PolyScope X AI-ready platform, allows users to interact with the company’s cobots, as well as components such as pallets, machines, workpieces and end-effectors, including grippers. Elements can be imported to mimic the workspace, ensuring that the final configuration works in the real-world environment, resulting in smoother deployments and rapid returns on investment. UR Studio can also be used to identify potential issues early on, cutting downtime and avoiding the risk of costly changes.

UR Studio runs on Web browsers without needing any installation. Users simply log into the UR Studio Web site to get started. Navigation of the simulated environment is said to be effortless using pre-made templates for common applications such as machine-tending, screwdriving, palletising and pick-and-place. More templates will be added later.
UR Studio is designed to work with UR’s PolyScope X platform, which supports simulation, bridging the gap between concept and operation.
