Trio of large robots handle ‘industry-leading’ loads up to 350kg

ABB Robotics has announced three large industrial robots capable of handling industry-leading payloads of up to 350kg. Together with other next-generation robots that it has launched since 2022, ABB is claiming to offer the most comprehensive line-up of industrial robots on the market, now consisting of 11 families and 60 variants.
The new IRB 6730S and IRB 6750S shelf-mounting robots have been designed to allow increased robot densities on production lines. They can be installed at a height (or on a second floor) and can work with floor-mounted robots to boost productivity. They provide full vertical and horizontal motion to increase their downward reach, making them ideal for applications such as die-casting, injection-moulding, and spot-welding in the automotive, foundry, construction and general manufacturing sectors.
The new IRB 6760 press-tending robot is said to be the highest performance robot to date for mid-sized press lines. When combined with ABB’s carbon-fibre tooling boom, it can boost output to a “market-leading” rate of up to 15 strokes per minute – or 900 parts per hour.
All three new robots are powered by ABB’s OmniCore controllers, said to deliver class-leading performance with a 20% reduction in energy consumption. They can deliver path accuracies down to 0.9 mm.
The new robots have been designed to work together to enhance plant performance. For example, ten of the IRB 6730S or 6750S shelf-mounted robots can work with eight floor-mounted IRB 6710 or 6740 robots to boost the number of spot welds on a car body from 70 to 80 joints in 15 seconds, compared to their predecessors. In addition, a modular design helps reduce cost of ownership through shared spare parts and service tools.
