Software-defined automation platform available as free download

Flexxbotics, the US specialist in autonomous manufacturing, has made its software-defined automation (SDA) platform available as a free download. It is not a trial or evaluation version, but includes the SDA runtime, Studio and API components with no time limits, capacity restrictions, or disabled capabilities.
The download offers a production-ready runtime environment, low-code HMI, developers studio, and complete API for smart factory interoperability and orchestration.

Using parallelised data pipelines, the platform delivers bidirectional read/write data flows in real-time for plant assets with both open and proprietary industrial protocols – allowing multiple machines, PLCs, robots and IT systems to operate with closed-loop control.
The software is already used in a variety of industries worldwide. It provides controller interoperability between more than 1,000 makes and models of factory equipment, allowing users to move beyond incompatibilities and complex custom integrations
The platform is aimed at users wanting:
- automated operation sequencing across multiple machines, sensors, and devices;
- multi-source production datastreams for physical AI training;
- data acquisition for secure, local industrial AI training datasets;
- data contextualisation for factory automation regulatory compliance; and
- modern alternatives to legacy control systems for better asset interoperability.
Users can run controller connector drivers – called transformers – and create their own using Python. Each new driver is compatible with all others to interoperate many-to-many across all endpoints.
“Many-to-many compatibility inheritance accelerates connecting factory equipment by 22 times compared to conventional point-to-point PLC integration approaches,” says Flexxbotics’ co-founder and chief technology officer, Tyler Modelski. “To aggregate and contextualise factory data for industrial AI and then make closed-loop adjustments in processing logic requires autonomous process control, which is what Flexxbotics delivers.”
The software runs either online or offline, allowing production to continue with or without Internet access. It works with IT systems such as ERP, MES, QMS, PLM, CAD/CAM, IIoT/Scada, for synchronised process execution.
