Siemens deal makes refurb drives and controls available in Europe

Drives, controls and HMIs that have been refurbished officially by Siemens will be available across Europe following the formation of a partnership between Siemens and the German-based B2B platform, Sparepartsnow. The deal will make Siemens automation products that have been refurbished to meet their original technical specifications and performance characteristics, more easily available to industrial customers.
The initially agreement covers a limited portfolio of automation products, such as drives, controllers and HMI panels, which will be available in Europe, but there are plans to expand both the product range and regional availability.
Siemens will restore previously used automation products to the same characteristics as when they were first placed on the market. Every device will undergo a standardised refurbishment process including repairs, hardware and software updates, visual restoration (where necessary) and quality testing, in accordance with Siemens’ production standards and specifications.
The refurbished products will not be functionally modified or have their performance enhanced. They will retain their original technical specifications while meeting the applicable safety, conformity and cybersecurity requirements at the time that they were launched.
Siemens and Sparepartsnow say that by extending the product lifecycles and keeping equipment in use for longer, they are contributing to a circular economy, improving equipment availability, and helping to reduce waste and conserve resources.
“This partnership with Sparepartsnow reinforces our commitment to providing customers with circular lifecycle solutions without compromising on quality or performance,” says Stefan Jäger, head of circular product services at Siemens. “Customers can confidently choose Siemens’ refurbished products, knowing they meet the original manufacturer’s high-quality standards.”
“This partnership with Siemens transforms circularity into a scalable solution, bringing value to our industrial customers,” adds Sparepartsnow CEO, Dr Christian Hoffart. “As these products were refurbished by their original manufacturer, we and our customers can trust in Siemens’ quality and reliability.”
Sparepartsnow was founded in 2021 with the aim of making spare parts in the B2B (business-to-business) sector as easy and fast to procure as in the B2C (business-to-consumer) sector. The company now carries of a range of more than five million spare parts (including more a million refurbished components) from manufacturers including ABB, Mitsubishi Electric, igus, B&R, Lenze, Omron, SEW Eurodrive, ifm, Eaton, Rexroth, Schaeffler, Festo, Phoenix Contact and Schneider Electric. Sparepartsnow also offers spindle repairs.
