Siemens adds Transmitton to its UK rail business

Siemens has bought the integrated controls and asset management specialist Transmitton for an undisclosed amount from the ICS Group, which is owned by Alchemy Partners. Transmitton, which supplies systems to the rail, oil, gas and process industries, will report to Siemens Transportation Systems in the UK.

Formed in 1972, Transmitton employs 120 people, most of them at its headquarters in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire. Siemens says that the acquisition will give it “an excellent opportunity” to develop its integrated control and asset management technology and systems, especially in the rail and oil and gas industries. It will also open up new markets for Siemens in the UK and abroad.

Siemens` main interest in Transmitton appears to centre on its rail activities, but the company is also active in other areas of automation and control, including datalogging, materials handling, conveyor automation, pump and switchgear control, and pipeline monitoring.

“Transmitton has a growing reputation as one of the country`s leading rail technology companies with complementary activities to our own,” says Kevin Tutton, managing director of Siemens Transportation Systems. “Our combined experience across a number of areas such as rail electrification, communications and station management make us a natural fit. But, above all, we have in common a strong focus on innovation and customer service.”

Transmitton`s managing director, Ian Wright adds that “everyone in Transmitton is delighted to be part of the Siemens family and looks forward to developing business opportunities, providing benefits for our customers.”
