Rockwell launches service to detect and respond to OT cyber-threats

Rockwell Automation has announced a service that will deliver continuous, real-time monitoring of operational technology (OT) environments to help protect them against cyber-threats. The Security Monitoring and Response service will integrate with existing architectures to help industrial organisations to stay ahead of cyber-threats and to build resilient operations.
Increasing cybersecurity incidents, vulnerabilities and talent shortages are making it more complex to secure OT environments. Rockwell’s recent State of Smart Manufacturing report found that cybersecurity risks and a shortage of skilled workers were among the top five external obstacles affecting critical manufacturing.
Through early detection and mitigation of threats, the Security Monitoring and Response service is intended to reduce disruption, downtime and potential financial losses, improving operational efficiency by automating day-to-day security tasks. The service will also help teams to make data-driven decisions with real-time visibility into security posture, and will bridge skills gap challenges through a dedicated team, allowing manufacturers to focus on critical business priorities while actively monitoring their operations.
“As cyber risk continues to increase, manufacturers need constant vigilance and the right expertise to stay ahead of evolving threats,” says Nick Creath, Rockwell’s cybersecurity services lead product manager. “But they often lack the resources to do so.
“Security Monitoring and Response provides the visibility, intelligence and rapid action required to safeguard industrial environments through 24/7 continuous monitoring, real-time threat detection and expert-led response,” he continues. “As a trusted partner, Rockwell is an extension of its customers’ teams, helping bridge skills gaps while enhancing their security posture.”
The new service will be provided by Rockwell’s OT Security Operations Center (SOC) in Israel, which it established in 2021, based on acquisitions that it made the previous year of the Israeli cybersecurity provider, Avnet, and the Spanish industrial cybersecurity services provider, Oylo.
The service will address security risks, resource gaps and operational inefficiencies with a dedicated team of experienced OT cybersecurity analysts. Its key capabilities will include:
- Continuous monitoring and advanced threat detection It will provide continuous surveillance and rapid detection of potential threats, with 24/7 real-time monitoring of OT environments. OT cybersecurity analysts will use advanced analytics to prioritise and investigate alerts, transforming raw data into actionable insights.
- Rapid response and remediation In the event of security incidents, there will be a rapid response supported by knowledge-based guidance and proven strategies. OT SOC analysts will provide step-by-step support to help manage incidents efficiently and to reduce operational impacts.
- Reporting and scalability Comprehensive monthly executive summaries and quarterly business reviews will keep stakeholders informed. The modular and scalable systems will be tailored to help meet the needs of each customer.
The new service is available now to customers of Rockwell and its security partners.
