Profinet safety controller works as expansion module

Phoenix Contact says its new PT 2.5-2MTB terminal blocks can halve terminal strip lengths

Phoenix Contact has a new Profisafe safety controller that operates as an expansion module for its AXC F 2152 or AXC F 3152 PLCnext controllers. The AXC F XT SPLC 3000 controller adds a safety PLC for Profinet networks to PLCnext. It can be used in applications up to SIL3 or PLe.

When operating as an F-host, the SPLC 3000 can communicate with up to 300 F-devices and operate simultaneously as an F-device. In combination with the Profisafe I/O extensions of the Axiobus that can be added to the right-hand-side of a PLCnext controller, offers a high degree of modularity. The redundant ARM-based safety-related CPUs have a clock speed of 800MHz for channel 1 and 600MHz for channel 2.

Other new arrivals on the Phoenix Contact stand at the recent SPS show in Germany included:

• The “first” TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking) system consisting of controls and managed switches for Profinet. The system allows converged networks that are used equally by IT and OT applications. These are particularly useful for AI applications, such as optical anomaly detection, in which large amounts of data must be transported from the field to the AI, while the results of the AI operation affect the process being controlled in real time. Accurate time synchronisation is essential for processing and evaluating the field data. Phoenix’s TSN system is based on its PLCnext technology and managed switches and uses Profinet as the real-time protocol.

• The mGuard 2105 and 4305 Gigabit security routers which protect industrial OT networks from unauthorised access by people or malicious software, and achieve a data throughput of almost 1,000MBit/s, ensuring a high level of security without limiting network performance.

• A range of compact box PCs for demanding edge computing installations in distributed control cabinets. The VL3 UPC series PCs offer dual- or quad-core Intel CPUs with low power consumption. They are equipped with two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and two high-speed USB 3.1 interfaces, and can be mounted on rails or walls.

• A mounting adapter that simplifies the installation of DIN rails, avoiding the need to dismantle terminal strip components to mount the rail. The Railfix adapters screw directly onto the mounting plate and the terminal strip is pushed onto mounting hooks. The rail is then levered into position using a screwdriver. Shielding is provided by a conductive material. The adapters are available in 35/15mm and 35/7.5mm versions.

Push-in terminal blocks that are said to halve terminal strip lengths compared to standard disconnect terminals. The PT 2.5-2MTB blocks have two isolation zones. In conjunction with the three double functional shafts, they support a range of distribution applications in a small space., the compact PT 2.5-2MTB reduces the. The knife disconnect terminals handle cross-sections from 0.14–4mm². The isolation zones enable multiple bridging and testing tasks in one terminal block.
