Online portal provides tools for comparing Nema motors

ABB’s Motor Connector portal allows motor users to compare old and new machines

ABB has launched an online portal that helps users of Nema-frame industrial electric motors to understand the financial and environmental implications of upgrading current and end-of-life motors. Called the Motor Connector, the portal acts as hub for accessing applications and information.

Customers can use it to manage their accounts, and request and access to applications via a secure interface. It will also make it easier for ABB to manage customer interactions and address their needs.

The portal offers access to several online tools:

• The RPM AC Wizard: a Web tool that help users to choose the most suitable Baldor-Reliance RPM AC motor for an application. It allows them to compare different models and configurations based on criteria such as energy efficiency, cost of operation, and footprint. The tool calculates energy savings and provides performance data, duty cycle​ information, and CAD drawings​.
• The Energy Savings Calculator: this tool allows users to compare the energy use, costs and CO₂ savings of existing motors with high-efficiency Baldor-Reliance SP4 Nema Super Premium motors. The tool has two modes: basic (which searches by catalogue number) and advanced (which searches by motor parameters such as power, efficiency, speed and enclosure type). Annual savings in kWh, energy percentages and US dollars are provided, as well as energy consumption and CO₂ reduction comparisons between existing and new motors. A digital report with data and graphics can be exported. Recent updates to tool have added variable-speed motor calculations, and inputs for multiple motors.
• The Cooling Tower Wizard: this tool helps users to choose ABB Baldor-Reliance direct-drive cooling tower motors. It allows users to compare models and configurations based on criteria such as energy efficiency, cost of operation and footprint. It provides energy savings calculation​, performance data ​and downloadable reports.

The portal integrates with backend systems to ensure real-time updates.
