Nidec opens $55m manufacturing complex that is its largest in India

Nidec has inaugurated six cutting-edge production plants on a 50-acre (20.2ha) site in Karnataka, India, known as the Orchard Hub Campus. The site is Nidec’s largest and most advanced manufacturing facility in the country, and will make “next-generation” products including: high-efficiency motors and drives; battery energy storage systems for grid stability and renewables; motors, controllers and chargers for electric vehicles; and generators for data centres and wind turbines.
“India holds a pivotal place in Nidec’s global strategy,” says Michael Briggs, president of Nidec Motion & Energy. “With an investment of $55m, the Orchard Hub reflects our belief in the country’s potential to lead the next wave of industrial transformation. This facility is not merely a manufacturing site, it is a symbol of our commitment to building a sustainable, innovation-driven future in partnership with India.

The new site brings Nidec Drives’ products closer to its customers in the Asia-Pacific region. It will strengthen the company’s’ ability to meet volume demands quickly and efficiently, while maintaining standards of performance and dependability. The new complex has a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2028, mirroring Nidec Drives’ commitment to green engineering and responsible manufacturing.
Nidec Drives now has manufacturing facilities in China, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas, offering geographic diversity with shorter, more resilient supply chains. This global footprint ensures products are available wherever they are needed, reducing lead times.
Drives are manufactured using identical machinery, technology and techniques across all of Nidec’s sites, guaranteeing that any updates or changes made at headquarters are implemented swiftly worldwide, ensuring consistent quality and reliability for customers.
