Infinite Electronics buys UK connector-maker Bulgin

26 January, 2023

US-based Infinite Electronics has bought Bulgin, the UK developer and manufacturer of connectors and related components for harsh environments, from the private equity firm Equistone Partners Europe, which itself acquired the business from Elektron Technology in 2019. Details of the deal have not been revealed.

Infinite Electronics, whose headquarters are in California, owns more than a dozen industrial, RF and connectivity brands.

Cambridge-based Bulgin, founded in 1923, offers more than 7,000 products and has a global customer base of more than 75,000 users. It designs and manufactures circular connectors, switches and power-related components, sealed to withstand exposure to extreme temperatures, water and humidity.

Equistone says that since it acquired Bulgin, the business has grown “significantly”, and opened new headquarters in Cambridge as well as a site in Tunisia. Bulgin now employs more than 680 people in the UK, North America, Asia-Pacific and North Africa, and has more than 670 distributor sites in 60 countries.

“Joining Infinite Electronics’ portfolio provides the Bulgin brand additional leverage and opportunities to accelerate business growth globally,” says Bulgin’s CEO, John Wilson. “Infinite Electronics and Bulgin share much in common, such as ambitious global growth plans and customer-centric values. This is an exciting milestone in the Bulgin journey.”
