Remote maintenance gateway cuts the need to travel to sites

26 January, 2022

Omron has announced a DIN-rail-mounting industrial gateway that can be installed in control panels to provide remote access for real-time servicing of industrial equipment without needing costly, time-consuming site visits.

The RT1-Series Site Manager allows users to view and control interfaces, troubleshoot equipment and install updates, without needing to travel. The edge gateway includes all of the hardware and software components needed for remote maintenance and is powered by software from the Danish remote maintenance specialist, Secomea. The security-certified gateway has a built-in firewall.

The gateway connects to up to ten items of equipment via Ethernet. It collects data via Modbus or OPC UA, for example, and sends the data for processing and analysis via a cloud service such as Azure or AWS.

Omron says that the device will improve responsiveness, reduce the impact of emergencies, optimise the workload on engineers, and maximise machine availability and productivity. By reducing the need for travel, it will also cut the emissions associated with troubleshooting and maintenance.
