Lika’s acquisition of encoder-maker Bogen is made to measure

05 October, 2020

The Italian optical and magnetic measurement specialist Lika Electronic has acquired the German encoder manufacturer, Bogen Electronic, for an undisclosed sum.

Both companies offer products for complex magnetic position, rotation and speed measurements, and automation control tasks. They say that their merger will combine their individual strengths in the market for magnetic sensors.

“The product portfolios of Lika and Bogen Electronic complement each other perfectly,” says Lika's CEO, Marco Calabrese. “We highly appreciate the competence of our new colleagues at Bogen and are pleased to be able to offer comprehensive solutions for optical and magnetic measurement systems to our customers around the world.”

Together the companies will employ around 140 people and have a combined turnover of about €17m. Bogen’s Berlin headquarters will operate under the new Bogen Magnetics name.

Bogen Electronic specialises in magnetic systems for measuring position, rotation and velocity

Lika, founded in 1982 and based in Carrè, Italy, develops and manufactures incremental and absolute, optical and magnetic, rotary and linear encoders, incremental and absolute sensors, linear and rotary incremental and absolute magnetic measurement systems, rotary actuators, displays, signal converters and encoder interfaces. Around 60% of its revenues come from exports.

Bogen, which started life in 1951 manufacturing magnetic heads for tape recorders, now specialises in magnetic heads for reading and writing data, as well as magnetic systems for position, rotation and velocity measurements.
