Routeco reshapes, and signs up Yamaha and Honeywell

26 August, 2020

The automation and controls distributor Routeco has restructured its branch network to create four customer service centres in Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and Milton Keynes. It says it has been planning the changes for 18 months and they are not a response to the Covid-19 pandemic. It adds that it has retained some of its staff in a “remote working capacity” and has thus “minimised several redundancies”.

The company has also recently signed deals to distribute Yamaha robots, controls and accessories, and field-based instruments from Honeywell Process Solutions.

Explaining the reasons for its restructuring, Routeco says that has been facing significant changes in the digital landscape and the way in which its customers want to partner with it. Over the past 18 months, it has therefore been reviewing its structure, and the needs of both Routeco and its customers.

Following the restructuring, Routeco – which is part of Sonepar UK and employs around 200 people – says it is planning to invest in areas such as technical workshops, technology updates and networking sessions to provide high levels of customer service and technical support. This includes investing in a customer technology centre in Scotland to provide networking sessions for local customers.

“As technology advances and the varying ways in which our customers choose to interact with us evolves, it is critical that we continue to invest in our digital strategy, enhancing the user experience when interacting with us online and delivering a true omni-channel experience,” says Routeco. “Alongside this, we will be investing in more account management resource, to support customers access our entire range of products and services, whilst also investing in our external sales and product sales specialist teams to help our customers with the adoption of new technology.”

Routeco's headquarters are in Milton Keynes

Routeco’s distribution deal with Yamaha Motor Europe Factory Automation covers Yamaha’s portfolio of industrial robots, controllers and accessories. These include Scara, Cartesian, multi-axis and single-axis robots, as well as modular linear conveyors that bring flexibility and scalability to robotic assembly cells.

The strategic UK partnership with Honeywell Process Solutions will focus on field-based instruments. Honeywell’s SmartLine transmitters are used to monitor pressure, flow, level, and temperature, and offer a Smart Connection capability for integration with control systems.
