Beckhoff signs global deal to supply BMW with IPCs

03 January, 2020

Beckhoff Automation has signed a deal with BMW to supply the car-maker with industrial PC (IPC) technology for use in its production facilities worldwide during the period to 2030. Beckhoff’s IPC technology, including control panels and PCs, will become a global standard for BMW, both in new manufacturing facilities and for retrofits, for applications such as machine connectivity, access control, data acquisition and visualisation.

Beckhoff will supply BMW with standard products that have been adapted to ensure optimal retrofitting in existing plants and to include BMW-specific extensions.

•  At the recent SPS exhibition in Germany, Beckhoff’s managing director, Hans Beckhoff, revealed that after six years of 10–20% year-on-year growth, the company's sales for 2019 would be similar to those in 2018, at €900-920m. He pointed out that the German automation market, where Beckhoff derives a third of its revenues, fell by 8–10% during 2019. But he is optimistic that things will improve during 2020, allowing his company to hit revenues of €1bn for the first time. Beckhoff holds about 2–3% of the global automation market.

Hans Beckhoff: hoping to become a €1bn company this year
