Power quality meter is ‘world’s most accurate’

Schneider Electric has announced what it claims is the world’s most advanced and accurate power quality meter. It says that the PowerLogic ION9000 is twice as accurate as other meters on the market, opening up new possibilities for energy savings.

The meter offers five key innovations:

Third-party-certified Class 0.1S accuracy  This offers twice the precision of existing energy standards, and will ensure that the data used for power management systems is accurate and reliable.

Cyber-security ready The meter is designed to align with grid cyber-security policies, with digitally signed, encrypted firmware, and secure protocols.

Onboard power quality analysis This provides useful information, not just data, compliant with IEC 61000-4-30, IEC 62586-1 and IEC 62586-2, as well as extended waveform capture, and patented disturbance direction detection.

Smart power event analysis  This correlates related trends, events and waveforms automatically, based on the time and type of incident, thus saving time and providing insights with pre- and post-incident data.

Patented ION programmability This adapts to power networks as they become more dynamic, supporting complex breaker monitoring or custom substation automation.

“The ION9000 is a big part of our answer to the new energy future,” says Alexis Grenon, Schneider’s senior vice-president for Power Solutions. “The rapid change in the energy industry will continue and any power system that is unable to adapt – for example, to any new standards, protocols, or certifications that will come in the future – may face obsolescence in as little as five years.

“The ION9000 provides the future-proof adaptability that modern power networks need,” he continues. “It offers a highly customisable platform, together with a new industry benchmark for accuracy, as well as a complete power quality analysis tool right out of the box, so it can quickly identify and help solve system power events.”

The ION9000 is a key element in Schneider’s EcoStruxure Power platform, part of its EcoStruxure open, interoperable system architecture which has been deployed in more than 480,000 installations, connecting more than 1.5 million assets.
