Integrated drive saves space, time, cabling costs and energy

17 August, 2017

Leroy-Somer has announced an integrated drive that can be used to control its IMfinity induction motors with ratings from 0.25–7.5kW. The Commander ID300 drive is said to deliver dynamic performance and high efficiency, while its decentralised configuration provides flexibility in machine and plant design, as well as saving the space normally needed for a cabinet. Eliminating the need for cables between drive and motor cuts costs and reduces power losses and emissions.

The rugged, IP55-protected drive has an onboard PLC, a choice of fieldbus communications (via plug-in modules) and I/O. It is set up and calibrated in the factory, and its characteristics include optimised starting torque, high dynamics on fast transient loads, and operation at constant torque using flux vector control across the speed range.

Installation time can be cut by specifying mechanical adaptations and connections that are made at the factory. Application-dependent settings facilitate set-up, configuration and diagnostics. Pre-set configurations are available for applications such as a pressure-regulating pumps (constant pressure / variable flow).

Energy efficiency exceeds the requirements of IES2, and the drive has a low power standby mode for applications with long idle periods. A modular design supports a choice of options and adaptations and the system can be combined with FFB brakes for dynamic braking, and/or gears from Leroy Somer’s multiposition 3000 range.

Leroy-Somer's integrated drive is designed to mount on the company's IMfinity motors

Onboard safety functions including STO comply with SIL3 / PLe. The motors are thermally protected against overloads, while an optional brake card can be used to control the brake sequencing and power supply.
