First hazardous area clamping enclosure is ‘97% faster’

08 May, 2017

Eaton has announced what it describes as “the first clamping enclosure for hazardous industrial environments”, and is hailing it as “a major safety enhancement” for explosion-proof enclosures.

The Crouse-Hinds EBMX enclosure – designed to contain motor control devices such as starters, disconnect switches and circuit-breakers – applies an even pressure automatically across the flame path between the cover and body.

“Customers can enhance safety by reducing the risk of installation errors due to missing or improperly torqued bolts,” says Craig Atwater, senior vice-president and general manager of Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds division for the Americas. “Without compromising personnel or equipment protection, the EBMX enclosures also enable customers to open and close enclosures 97% faster than traditional bolted solutions, increasing speed for installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.”

Eaton’s EBMX enclosures provide a safe housing for motor controls in hazardous areas

The enclosures have a rated interrupting capacity of 65kA at 480V and comply with the UL 1203 standard for explosion-proof and dustproof equipment for use in hazardous locations. They are also said to be the first Nema 7 classified enclosures to use clamping technology, and comply with the US National Electrical Code (NEC) and Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
