Rexnord acquires Precision Gear Holdings

17 December, 2013

The American mechanical power transmission components manufacturer Rexnord has bought Precision Gear Holdings and its two operating subsidiaries, Merit Gear and Precision Gear, for an undisclosed sum. PGH employs around 190 people and has annual sales of worth about $45m.

Wisconsin-based Merit Gear manufactures gearing and specialised gearboxes mainly for the North American oil and gas market, as well as other industrial markets.

“Merit’s capabilities and offering are highly complementary to our core Falk product line,” says Dean Vlasak, Rexnord vice-president for innovation and energy. “This acquisition presents the opportunity to enhance the value and breadth of solutions we can bring to Rexnord and Merit customers. Moreover, Merit strengthens Rexnord’s presence in key oil and gas markets and brings strong relationships with leading OEMs and drillers.”

Precision Gear, located in Ohio, manufactures specialised gears mainly for the aerospace market, along with other industrial markets.

“Precision Gear represents ongoing strategic investment into Rexnord’s aerospace product portfolio within its Process and Motion Control platform,” says Darryl Mayhorn, president of Rexnord Aerospace. “We are excited with this expansion of our aerospace gear manufacturing capabilities as well as the additional products and services the Precision team brings to better serve our existing customers.”

Rexnord, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, consists of two strategic platforms: Process & Motion Control; and Water Management. It has around 7,300 employees worldwide.
