Microdrive is ‘the smallest with a built-in HMI’

05 December, 2013

The Brazilian drive technology and motor manufacturer WEG has launched a mini frequency inverter which, it claims, is the smallest to incorporate an LCD HMI. The CFW100 inverter, which made its debut at the recent SPS IPC Drives show in Germany, has a built-in micro-PLC that supports IEC 61131-3 programming, making the drive suitable for simple applications such as swimming pool pumps, small fans and special-purpose machines

The drive is available in three sizes for motor ratings from 0.18–0.75kW and current ratings from 1.6–4.2A. It can control three-phase motors from single-phase 200–240V, 50/60Hz supplies, and has an overload capacity of 150% of the rated current for 60 seconds every 10 minutes. The drive incorporates a PID controller and offers a choice of voltage vector or V/f control.

With a height of 100–126mm, a width of 55mm, and a depth of 129mm, the CFW100 can be integrated easily into cabinets and machines. The two larger sizes of the low-maintenance drives incorporate replaceable ventilation modules.

A plug-and-play design simplifies installation and commissioning. As part of WEG’s modular CFW100 platform, the drive can accommodate various plug-in base terminals, including USB and Modbus RTU communications interfaces that simplify access to fieldbus systems such as Modbus, DeviceNet and CANopen.

There are also extension modules that allow remote control of the drives using an HMI/keypad or a handheld infrared device. A Bluetooth link can also be implemented using a plug-in module and used to control motor speeds remotely.

An optional flash memory card with a copy-and-paste function allows parameter data sets to be saved and transferred.

There are four digital inputs, and this number can be increased using a plug-in module. The IP20-protected mini inverters incorporate conformal coatings and can be used in ambient temperatures up to 50°C without derating. Built-in electronic thermal protection prevents motors from overheating.

Free setup software can be downloaded from WEG’s Web site.
