PLC can cope with tough environments

01 November, 2013

Siemens has developed a controller specifically for use in tough environments. The Siplus S7-1500 controller has been designed to provide reliable operation in extreme conditions including the presence of high levels of humidity, corrosive vapours, salt and dust. In hot climates, it can cut energy costs because no extra air conditioning is needed.

The robust system can be used anywhere from offshore plants to extreme altitudes. It can be operated continuously and functions reliably during cold starts. The controller is protected against condensation and corrosive gasses, as well as aggressive and saline atmospheres.

The PLC has the same performance characteristics as Siemens’ new Simatic S7-1500 generation of standard controllers for mid-level and high-end machine and plant automation.

Built-in functions include motion control, security, easy-to-implement safety, and configurable diagnostic functions. It integrates with Siemens’ TIA Portal technology for simple engineering and low project costs.
