Motor-maker delivers prototype gearboxes in two days

07 August, 2013

The Bournemouth-based geared motor manufacturer Parvalux has introduced a service that allows it to deliver proof-of-concept gearbox prototypes in as little as two days.

The company’s 20-strong engineering team produces detailed 3D models of the gearbox casings which are then sent to a four-axis CNC machine, used exclusively to produce the functional solid prototypes.

Parvalux’s technical director, Dr Martin Mathias, believes that the prototyping machine has already paid for itself by cutting lead times dramatically for customers.

“The benefit of these technologies is that a proof-of-concept can be manufactured in literally days and at low cost,” he says. “This will greatly help customers who need to identify a product solution when working to a tight deadline on an application.”
