Gear-motor production capacity expands to meet demand

10 July, 2012

Following WEG`s acquisition last year of the Austrian gearbox manufacturer Watt Drive, the Brazilian motor-maker is developing a new range of geared motors which it aims to complete within the next few months. To meet the expected high demand for these motors, WEG is planning to expand the manufacturing facilities at Watt’s Markt Piesting site.

“The Watt modular gear system is the perfect partner for our high-efficiency IE2 and IE3 W22 motors, providing future-proof drive packages that deliver the highest levels of energy efficiency, reliability and operational life,” says WEG’s European marketing manager, Marek Lukaszczyk.

“The global market increasingly requires optimised solutions that integrate electric motors, frequency inverters and gearboxes/geared motors in systems that deliver improvements in operational performance and energy efficiency,” he adds. “This is exactly what we can now offer to flexibly meet the requirements of our customers and increase our worldwide growth.”

Watt’s gearbox and geared motors range (above) includes helical, shaft-mounted, parallel-shaft, helical-worm, helical-bevel, angle parallel-shaft, and worm types. The boxes cover output torques up to 20,000Nm, and offer low backlash, high safety levels and a choice of mountings, including foot, flange and shaft mountings, with solid or hollow shafts. A Uniblock mounting option combines foot and flange mounting in one, with a gear casing that is machined on all sides.
