ContiTech buys specialist UK belt-maker

15 June, 2012

The German belts giant ContiTech has bought a British company, Specialised Belting Supplies, which makes mainly steep-angle conveyor belts for transporting bulk materials such as ore, coal or gravel. Production will stay at the company’s site in Thetford, Norfolk, where it has 50 employees. Both sides have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

“The purchase of this profitable and established company is strategically important and opens additional opportunities for us in the growing worldwide market of steep inclined and vertical conveying,” says Hans-Jürgen Duensing, manager of ContiTech’s Conveyor Belt Group, based in Northeim, Germany. “We are not just taking over the business operations, but the production as well and want to further expand it. We also have for the future the new production technology to produce particularly temperature-resistant, corrugated sidewall belts.”

Specialised Belting Supplies has been in business since 1984. Its director Peter Lord will stay on as brand manager, ensuring continuity in customer relations.
