Ring coining gives chain 20% more capacity

Tsubaki`s new European standard chain uses a ring coining process on its link plates to boost its power-handling capacity.

Ring coining creates a plastic deformation around the circumference of the pin-hole on the cover plate of the chain. This generates residual stress around the deformed area, increasing its fatigue strength.

The result, according to Tsukabi, is that a 20% higher power rating can be applied to the roller chain, compared with the company`s previous generation of European standard chains. The Runner 2000 chain therefore overcomes the problem of having to derate drive chains to allow for the lower maximum allowable load of their connecting links.

In many manufacturing processes, there is a need to be able to disassemble a chain on the spot. The Runner 2000 allows users to do this using a new type of pin, which can be extracted easily, on-site, with a standard screw-type chain cutter.

The chain uses shot-peened solid rollers, chain bushes and link plates. Shot-peening hardens the surface of these components, improves their durability at high speed and increases their fatigue strength.
