`World`s smallest` Sercos servo makes UK debut

Wyko is launching a Sercos-compatible servo drive system which is says is probably the world`s smallest at the Drives & Controls show in Birmingham next month. The Sanyo Denki PV system provides up to 32 axes of servo motion for applications such as packaging and printing.

The only connection needed between the controller and the drive is a fibre optic cable up to 250 feet (76m) long. The digital fibre optic interface replaces the many logic connections in a traditional servo, saving time and money.

The drive closes all internal control loops and can provide 32-bit position commands up to 1,000 times a second. This ability is claimed to deliver significant improvements in high-speed machine control compared to rival drives - particularly those with analogue interfaces.

There are seven models in the PV range, rated from 100W to 1.5kW, with peak torques from 0.97-20Nm, providing smooth, quiet operation up to 4,500 rpm. Dynamic braking, regeneration and high-speed registration inputs are standard.
