Fieldbus calibrator is `world`s first`

The Finnish calibration specialist Beamex claims to have developed the world`s first fieldbus calibrator. The company`s MC5 instrument combines a multifunction calibrator with a fieldbus configurator for Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus PA transmitters.

Until now, says Beamex, calibrating fieldbus transmitters has been a complicated and time-consuming operation, typically needing two people. It takes just one person to operate the MC5 and the calibration results are documented automatically.

The portable, compact instrument can also read the transmitter`s output, and change its configuration. In addition, it can be used to calibrate electrical, pressure, temperature and frequency signals.

According to Beamex`s managing director, Raimo Ahola, the introduction of the portable fieldbus calibrator is "one of the biggest things that has happened in the calibration market for many years."
