ETB`s first CEO is a mechanical engineer

A trained mechanical engineer, Alan Clark, has been appointed as the first chief executive of the Engineering and Technology Board (ETB), which took over the promotional role of the old Engineering Council in January. Clark, who also holds an MBA, was previously chief executive of the intelligent building sector at Novar (formerly Caradon). Earlier in his career, he worked for General Electrical both in the US and in Europe.

ETB chairman Sir Peter Williams says the board is pleased to have attracted a leading industrialist as the ETB`s first chief executive. He adds that Clark`s "understanding of the needs of business and industry and his global perspective will be of great value to the ETB in the pioneering work that lies ahead".

Clark, 51, says that his career has mainly involved "tackling the business issues in major corporations, but always with engineering and technology as the key drivers. I firmly believe that an appropriate engineering and science based culture is essential to national competitiveness and that the ETB has a key role to play."
