Efficient servomotors are smaller and lighter

Mitsubishi Electric has launched a pair of high-speed, low-inertia servomotors that are much smaller and lighter than previous generations. The 7kW and 9kW HF-JP motors are built around a joint wrap core technology which results in high efficiencies and smaller motor sizes.

The technology produces high-density magnetic fields which allow the motors to deliver 300% peak torques. They are suitable for high-throughput, high acceleration and deceleration positioning operations, with rated speeds of 3,000 rpm and top speeds of 6,000 rpm.

The motors’ characteristics mean that it is no longer necessary to use a large motor to achieve fast accelerations and speeds, thus allowing engineers to standardise on much smaller motors than they would have needed previously.

The motors incorporate high-resolution absolute encoders for accurate positioning and to help deliver stable rotation even at low speeds. They can be supplied fitted with brakes and with electrical connections sealed to IP67.
