Solid-state switches are `first` in 17.5mm DIN-rail format

Carlo Gavazzi claims to have developed the first solid-state relays and contactors in 17.5mm-wide housings for DIN-rail and panel mounting. The compact RG series devices, in the same form factor as miniature circuit breakers, can replace existing relays and contactors, minimising parts numbers.

The devices also offer improvements in both electrical and mechanical performance in areas such as longevity, transient voltage protection, vibration resistance, and heatsink mounting.

There are two families: the 17.5mm-wide RGS devices rated up to 600V/90A AC; and RGC devices with integrated heatsinks, rated at up to 20A in 17.5mm versions, and up to 30A in 22.5mm-wide housings.

The devices are available in DC-controlled versions for voltages from 4–32V DC, and in AC–controlled types with operating voltages of 20–275V AC and 20–190V DC. Switching is selectable between zero-cross or instant-on.
 
Breakdown voltages of 800V, 1.2kV or 1.6kV allow the switches to cope with demanding conditions. Voltage transient protection is standard across the outputs. There is also protection against control voltage transients. DC-controlled devices are polarity protected up to 32V DC, and the devices are designed to handle vibration levels up to 5g.
 
The solid-state relays can be mounted on any heatsinking surface, with the distance between mounting holes being the same as for standard hockey-puck SSRs.
