Simple access system is more secure than passwords

14 December, 2010

Euchner has developed a transponder-based system for limiting access to automation systems, that is said to be more secure than password-based access control systems. Each user is given an electronic key containing an authorisation profile tailored to their permitted level of access.

For example, one person may be allowed to control one machine, while another has access to a whole production line. If they are granted access, the EKS Light system forwards this information to a connected control system via a parallel four-bit data interface.

The keys are programmed using PC software and a USB-linked adaptor. The system is IP-67 protected.
