♦  Renishaw has paid £2.3m for a 29% stake in the York-based laser time-of-flight measurement specialist, Measurement Devices Ltd (MDL). It also has an agreement to buy the remaining shares in the family-owned business over the next four years. No changes are expected at MDL, which has 50 staff. 

♦  Bradford-based Thorite, which claims to be the UK’s largest distributor of pneumatic products and process systems, has added electric actuators to its portfolio. It says that the electric devices are faster and more efficient than pneumatic actuators and that previous cost differences have narrowed with “prices rapidly approaching parity, making electric actuators the better-value option for many applications." The electric actuators are being supplied by Festo.

♦  Levels of orders and sales in the UK’s manufacturing technology sector were broadly maintained during July, according to the Manufacturing Technologies Association’s latest survey of its members. The value of order intake has fallen slightly but invoiced sales improved compared to June, Business confidence remains positive.
