Tool-free motor connections save time and space

21 April, 2010

Eaton Moeller has developed a tool-free system for connecting motors directly to contactors and soft-starters, reducing the need for terminal blocks and rail space in switching cabinets, as well as the testing of incomer terminal blocks to the contactors.

The four-pole DILM12-XMCP/E connector system is designed to be used with the company’s DILM7..M15 contactors with spring-loaded terminals. The main and control circuit connections are used for the tool-less connections with the motor feeder plug system. Link plugs make it possible to create applications such as reversing or star-delta starters reliably and quickly.

Direct connections of motors feeder to active switching devices is possible using a PE module and motor feeder plug. According to Moeller, this saves time and money, as well as ensuring safe and error-free mounting.

The PE module is clipped onto the contactor to connect the PE conductor directly to the contactor. The earth contact is made with the spring plate of the PE conductor terminal which is pressed with the contactor against the grounded mounting rail at three contact areas, making a secure and durable connection.
