• The British Mechanical Power Transmission Association (formerly the British Gear Association) has produced a CD-ROM containing a statistical profile of the European mechanical power transmission industry. Hirschmann Electronics has moved its UK headquarters and training centre from Bedford to a business park near the Birmingham NEC. The move to a more central location follows last year`s decision to focus on the industrial networking and connection markets. The company first set up in Thetford, Norfolk, in 1990, before moving to Bedford in 1997. The new phone number is 0121 329 5000.

• The Manufacturing Technologies Association (formerly the MTTA), is publishing a revised set of Codes of Practice for various types of machine tool. They emphasize modern machine tool safeguarding practices, consistent with the latest UK and EU legislation. Details at www.mta.org.uk or on 020 7298 6400.
