Servomotor is `half the length`

15 December, 2009

Control Techniques used the recent SPS/IPC/Drives show in Germany to launch a compact servomotor which, it claims, offers market-leading dynamic performance in a compact package. The Unimotor hd is aimed principally at applications requiring high peak torque overloads for short periods during acceleration or deceleration, but can also be used in general servo applications where space is tight.

The motor has a segmented stator, resulting in highly dynamic performance with low inertia. It is about half the length of a similarly-rated distributed wound servomotor. Initially, its spans torque ratings from 0.85–16Nm, with versions up to 70Nm due later.

Feedback options include incremental, SinCos and absolute encoders (single- and multi-turn), and resolvers. Motors fitted with SinCos or absolute feedback can be pre-loaded with “electronic nameplate” data that is read automatically by CT servo drives to simplify commissioning and optimise performance.

The motors can be supplied with windings to suit 200V and 400V supplies and with rated speeds from 2,000–6,000 rpm. Extensions planned for 2010 include washdown and ATEX versions.
