Safety module handles all functions

15 May, 2009

Phoenix Contact has developed a configurable safety module that allows entire safety circuits – from emergency stops to light curtains – to be monitored using a single, intrinsically safe (IS) switching device.

The 67.5mm-wide PSR Trisafe relay (below) can monitor up to 20 safety signals, and provides four IS outputs, as well as outputs for clock signals, alarms and earth switches. It meets the requirements of Cat 4, PLe and SIL 3.

The safety functions are configured in a few mouse-clicks using a free graphical software package called Safeconf. The drag-and-drop software includes a simulation mode and an automatic logic check function, minimising the likelihood of errors.
