01 July, 2008

The next conference on machine safety organised by BARA, the British Automation and Robot Association, will take place at Bletchley Park (shown below), near Milton Keynes, on 30 September.

The conference will focus upon the practical application of functional safety and will include an overview of current and emerging machine safety standards, given by a speaker from the HSE. The HSE will also provide an update on power drive and robotic standards. Other speakers will discuss technologies that support functional safety and will examine their practical application through case studies. Other topics to be covered include safety-related control and networking.

BARA is running the conference in association with Drives & Controls. Sponsors include Laidler, the HSE, the IET, the IMechE and MachineBuilding.net.

Attendees will be able to take a guided tour of the site of Britain’s code-breaking activities during WWII, and the birthplace of the modern computer. They will also be able to see a rebuilt, working version of the Turing Bombe – the machine used to crack the Enigma codes.
